In the past I have written about various means used by companies to make you, the consumer, think a particular water ionizer had been independently evaluated by an official, non-biased group as being the best water ionizer.  I’m not addressing or disputing who is the best water ionizer in this article, and I have no objection to an ionizer receiving an award. Actually I think all of the water ionizers I sell deserve to receive an award. It’s just that…

I know of no official and independent group who judges water ionizers.

There are no actual water ionizer of the year awards, other than what a website owner claims a water ionizer to be best. It’s certainly anyone’s right to say an ionizer is best. Most of my customers will claim that the water ionizer they use is best. However there is no organization in the water ionizer industry, such as the “Kelley Blue Book” of water ionizers, who is completely independent and completely free of ties to a water ionizer company giving out awards. My point is: consumers should know this…that’s all.

The awards that I actually pay attention to are the real awards that have been given to certain water ionizers by totally legitimate, non-biased entities [such as Japanese or Korean governments, agencies or newspapers] and I’ve tried to place these on my site comparison chart wherever it was verifiable that the ionizer earned a legitimate award. Some examples are:

• Industrial Medal of Merit (Japanese Emperor)
• Hankook Ilbo (Korean Newspaper) best product award
• Sports Seoul as best product award
• GOOD DAY Best Product Award

When I first decided to sell water ionizers back in 2007, I tried to look up “water ionizer comparisons”, or “water ionizer reviews”, and noticed all companies claimed their water ionizer(s) were the best. I didn’t see what I thought was a non-biased site. I also saw a lot of talk and very little actual testing going on. That’s about the time I decided I wanted to know what the different water ionizers were capable of and how they really compared with each other. So I started to test them myself.

Even today it is hard to know who is telling the straight story, and many review/comparison sites don’t even clearly tell you who they are [i.e., name, address, etc.]. Actually, in all of the top 20 review websites on Google, I found only 2 websites who divulge who they are…mine was one of them.

One other food for thought on truly reviewing a water ionizer is, “How well does that water ionizer perform in various source waters?” I’ve done a lot of testing in Missouri, some in Georgia and some in California, but have a ways to go before I can say I’ve tested every type of source water. I will be taking a trip to the northeast in late winter/early spring, and so will do a huge batch of testing then. The source water will be soft and acidic there, so it will be interesting.

Typically with soft water a more powerful water ionizer works better and with hard water a continuous-cleaning ionizer works better [but we’ll see].
