Water Ionizer Installation: What to do About Well-Water, Soft Water and Acidic Tap Water
Posted by Alkaline Water Plus on 23rd Mar 2013
First of all, if you have acidic tap-water there is a reason for you to be concerned. Acidic water, traveling through pipes, can corrode, or leach minerals from them, and your incoming tap-water is likely to have some copper, lead, or other heavy-metals in it because of this.
In New England, the water is known to be very soft and acidic. [By acidic is meant that the pH of the water is less than neutral, 7 pH.] This condition is caused by a few things [mainly the pine forests, the lack of limestone, and the prevalence of acidic rain]. So if you have a well and you live in New England I predict that your water is acidic. You should test it.
Acidic Water is Very Bad for Your Health!
This particular post is all about how I made my Dad’s New York, very soft, acidic, well-water work great with the Jupiter Melody Water Ionizer.
My dad recently moved to New York and was using a well. Like many New England well owners, he was faced with extremely soft and acidic water conditions with his well-water.
I accurately predicted that to get the best ionization he would need a re-mineralizing pre-filter, so I brought a few with me. Fortunately, he only needed one.
Here are the steps I took to help my dad fix his well-water for best ionization.
- Handling of Sediment: Because this was well-water, I was concerned about sediment. To prevent sediment from clogging up the ionizer or ruining the new UltraWater filter, I installed a pre-filter inside a housing just prior to the water ionizer. I purchased this for a relatively cheap price at Lowes. This came with 3/8-inch hosing, and so I purchased a couple of fittings to adapt the pre-filter hosing to the ¼-inch water ionizer hosing. [Note: The filter will need to be changed every 6 months, or sooner if it fills up with silt.]
- Soft-Water Handling: I tested my dad’s water for hardness and it was soft [about 50 ppm]. Therefore, I installed an in-line re-mineralizer filter just prior to the water ionizer.
- Best Internal Filtration: Next, I wanted the best for my dad, so I installed the very best filter I sell, which is called the UltraWater filter to put inside his Melody water ionizer.
I Didn’t Expect Such Fantastic Water Ionization!
The results were better than I expected! I was hoping to at least get fair results, but what I got was great! I expected the Melody water ionizer would get a great ORP [abundance of antioxidants], but even the ORP was better than expected. I was very pleased.
I knew from working with people around the country that pH and ORP results are often falsely high when the filter is new. So I waited a few days to break in the filter and re-tested. You can see both videos and charts, below.
Here are the videos and charts showing the two full sets tests that were done.

After doing the first set of tests, I waited a few days [to let the filters wear-in] and re-tested. The numbers weren’t as high as the first set of tests, but I still got great results! [Note: I didn’t include the video on this one.]

One final thing I did was test the ionized water using pH drops. This will be closer to what most customers will do, so I thought I’d show you that.

As a final note, my sister, who is a nurse practitioner, is thrilled with the results that she, my dad and their pets are experiencing with the water. She was quite skeptical at first. But now she will gladly say that it has been a great assistance to them that we got their water situation fixed, and they are all grateful.
